Lahad Datu rep Yusof Apdal remanded 4 days in probe into mishandling of fed govt funds for Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a four-day remand order against Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Yusof Apdal to assist its probe over mishandling of federal funds for Sabah.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie granted the remand application.

Yusof, 57, who is the younger brother of Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, was detained at MACC office here about 10pm yesterday after giving his statement.

He arrived at the court compound at 10.30am and entered the magistrate's court 10 minutes later.

About 20 people gathered outside to give support to the Silam Umno chief. He is represented by Edward Paul and Peter Lee.

Edward said the remand order will expire on Saturday and the counsel had also tendered document of Yusof's medical condition to the court.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Anip and Rozanna Abd Hadi and prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basirudin appeared for MACC.

Yusof is the 9th individual detained by MACC so far in its ongoing probe over the misappropriation of RM1.5 billion in federal funds under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

Six of them had been released on MACC bail.

The remands for Shafie's other younger brother, Hamid Apdal and Hamid's son-in-law Manzur Hussein Awal Khan expired on Friday.

Both are hospitalised at two separate private hospitals here.

However, there is a possibility for both to be released earlier.
