Batu Pahat toddler severely injured in dog attack

BATU PAHAT: A toddler was seriously injured after she was bitten by a dog following an accident involving her, her mother and uncle in front of a shophouse in Taman Banang Heights here.

In the Monday incident, the three victims were on their way home from the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital on a single motorcycle.

Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said a lorry that was parked at the side of the road suddenly moved, causing the rider, 17, to lose control of the motorcycle.

"All three victims fell off the motorcycle. A dog then appeared and began to bite the toddler's head.

"The toddler, who is 16-months-old, was immediately rushed to the hospital. She underwent surgery for the injuries on her head and neck. She has been admitted for further treatment while her mother and uncle escaped with minor injuries," said Wahib.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 289 of the Penal Code and Rule 10 of the Road Transport Act LN 166/59.
