Mohd Shafie Apdal, discharged from hospital, resumes MACC remand

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who is under remand by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), has been discharged from the hospital where he was seeking treatment.

Shafie was taken from the district hospital at 3pm by MACC officers to his house at Taman Golf View in Penampang for a search.

His deputy president Darell Leiking, in confirming this, said the house search in the presence of Shafie was a standard operating procedure (SOP) of MACC probe.

“He was then taken to Sabah MACC office lock up to continue his remand period,” he said, adding that he was not sure how long the raid took.

Darell said the president wanted to get the investigation going despite medical advice, claiming that he initially wanted to be discharged yesterday but the doctors did not recommend it.

Shafie was initially admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 due to high blood pressure around Thursday midnight after being arrested earlier. His remand is due to end on Monday.

“He will be brought to court on Monday, which can either release him or extend his remand or charge him. We don’t know yet,” said Darell.

The remand on his younger brother Yusof Apdal who is Lahad Datu assemblyman and Silam Umno chief, will also end on Monday.
