KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has condemned the terror attacks on two mosques in Afghanistan which left some 70 people dead yesterday.

In his Twitter post, Najib said extremism has no place in Islam.

“(I) Strongly condemn the heinous attacks in Afghanistan. Extremism has no place in Islam,” he said in his posting tonight.

On Friday, a gunman entered a Shia Muslim mosque in Kabul before opening fire and detonating an explosive, killing at least 39 worshippers.

A witness told the BBC that people had been praying when the bomber detonated his explosives. The attacker was reported to have opened fire as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers, before detonating a bomb.

The Kabul police spokesman confirmed the incident at the Shia mosque there, but did not give further details.

Islamic State has so far claimed responsibility for the attack but provided no evidence for it.

Reports said the attack in Ghor, central Afghanistan also killed a pro-government militia commander.
