Social security and employee responsibility to be made compulsory subject

KUALA LUMPUR: All training institutions for tutors under the Human Resources department are required to teach social security and employee responsibility subject, starting January 2018.

The subject will be taught to students who are in their final year.

Three agencies; Labour department of Peninsular Malaysia, Social Security Organisation (Socso) and the Human Resources department which are under the Human Resources Ministry has signed a memorandum with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

The MoU is aimed, to provide a comprehensive and in-depth training to enhance the understanding of the subject to the tutors.

Socso chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, said the introduction of the module is in line with Socso Strategic Plan 2016 - 2020, which it will help to improve the ability to manage customers, stakeholders, agencies and non-governmental organisations.

"Our objective is we want the students to know their rights and responsibilities before they graduate and venture into technical and vocational fields.

"We want them to also understand the laws and its benefits," he said at a press conference held after the signing of MoU held at Seri Pacific Hotel, today.

Human Resources Ministry secretary-general Dr Ghazali Abas, who was present the MoU signing ceremony, in his speech, said, this initiative is a quick-win approach and through it, will spread information and knowledge to the target group which will provide a more significant impact.

Meanwhile, Human Resources director Datuk Seri Nadzri Siron said there are 32 training institutions in the country with more than 14,000 students undergoing their coursework.

He said with this module introduction it would add value and improve the employability skills for the students
