Driving without a valid licence, most common offence recorded by motorists in Perlis

KANGAR: Driving without a valid licence was the main offence recorded by Road Transport Department (RTD) in Perlis throughout the year.

The department's director Sharul Azhar Md Dali said a total of 1,898 summonses were issued until September to errant motorists for driving without a licence. Most of the offenders were motorcyclists.

"Of the total 4,000 summonses issued this year, almost half of the number involved driving without licence.

The offence was not only committed by the adults but also teenagers, including those aged below 16, Sharul said at the Meet RTD Day event on Tuesday.

During the two-hour programme which began at 2.30pm, the department offered up to a 50 per cent reduction on summonses for motorists who came to pay their summonses.

However, Sharul said that the turnout was poor as not many came despite the announcements made on social media in the past week.
