Shah Alam, Klang residents elated at Batu Tiga, Sungai Rasau toll abolishment

SHAH ALAM: The abolishment of toll collection at roads connecting Shah Alam and Klang to the Federal Highway has been met with relief and gratitude by the residents.

Federal Shah Alam parliamentary coordinator Datuk Azhari Shaari said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 2018 Budget announcement that there will be no more toll collection at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau was timely.

Azhari, who was among those who had been consistently calling for the abolishment of the tolls, said this has proven that their voices are heard by the leaders of the country.

“Alhamdulillah, thank you Datuk Seri Najib for listening to the pleas of Shah Alam residents for the toll collection to be abolished.

“Since 2014, I have been constantly urging the Federal government to abolish the toll collection as I felt that it is unfair to the residents of both Shah Alam and Klang.

“They have to fork out money to pay the toll rates if they wish to travel to Kuala Lumpur via the Federal Highway. At the same time, our neighbouring Subang folk do not have to pass through any toll,” said Azhari.

Azhari, who is also Umno Shah Alam division chief, said the toll collection abolishment meant that residents of Shah Alam and Klang would be saving about RM120 a month each.

“I was touched after hearing the announcement as this would also help the people tackle the cost of living,” he added.
