KANGAR: Water supply in Kampung Kubang Tiga and its surrounding areas near Padang Besar is expected to improve significantly with the anticipated operation of the Batu Bertangkup Pump House next month.
Currently undergoing testing, the pump house, constructed in 2020 through the Federal government's Rural Water Supply (BALB) allocation, is on track for handover to Syarikat Air Perlis (SAP), said SAP Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Mohmad Asari Daud.
"Kubang Tiga is a remote area and the water pressure is too low. There is frequent disruption due to the existing pump house receiving inconsistent and insufficient water supply. Insya-Allah it will improve after the pump is operational," he told Bernama today (January 23).
Mohmad was commenting on a news report last Friday, where residents of Kampung Kubang Tiga expressed hope for better water infrastructure quality and capacity following the new tariff adjustment effective February 1.
In the report, Tan Bon Liang, the chairman of the Village Development and Security Council (MPKK) for Kampung Kubang Tiga, representing the residents, urged SAP, the water operator in Perlis, to use the tariff adjustment to fix the issue of low water pressure frequently experienced in the village.
Mohmad said other nearby areas such as Kampung Bilal Uduh, Kampung Belukar Lenga, Sungai Serai and Kampung Batu Bertangkup will also benefit from the operation of the new pump house which covers about 1,500 consumers.
Once it is fully operational the pump house can produce 2.95 million litres of water per day, he said.
He highlighted that SAP had been addressing the water supply issue in Kampung Kubang Tiga even before the recent water tariff adjustment, demonstrating continuous efforts to resolve the village's water problems.
Mohmad also revealed plans to seek approval from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to upgrade the suction tank, pump house, and related facilities in Kaki Bukit and Wang Kelian near Padang Besar. --BERNAMA
