Not true that Batu Tiga, Sg Rasau toll collection will cease in 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: Based on the 2011 revised Concession Agreement, toll collection at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor is scheduled to end on Dec 31 2038.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) in a statement today said as such that the toll collection in the two location was not supposed to end by 2018 as alleged in viral internet posts.

“The announcement made by Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) means that abolishment of toll collection effective Jan 1, 2018 at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas are realised 20 years ahead of schedule.”

It said the 2011 Concession Agreement, which was restructured following the privatisation of PLUS in the same year, saw toll collection being harmonised on all toll plazas that are under the purview of PLUS and this includes Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau.

“In addition, no toll increase was implemented by the Government and/or PLUS on all its highways since 2005,” PLUS said.

It adds that there have been several enquiries on the compensation for PLUS with the abolishment of toll collection at the 3 locations - Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor and Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.

“As discussions are on-going, we will make the necessary announcement upon receipt of further details from the government.”

Najib in tabling the 2018 Budget on Friday announced that toll collection at four places in the country will be abolished effective Jan 1, 2018.

He said toll collection would be discontinued at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor, Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah and at the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) in Johor.

The toll for Class 1 vehicles at Batu Tiga is RM1.10 and at Sungai Rasau, RM1.

UEM Group Bhd and the Employees Provident Fund, as major shareholders of PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS), commended Najib’s announcement on the matter.

“The announcement follows a series of discussions held between the government and UEM Group as well as the EPF,” UEM said in responding to the Budget 2018.
