Johor Royal Press Office members visit Balai Berita Bangsar

KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor Royal Press Office (RPO) had its first official media visit to Balai Berita Bangsar today, to further strengthen its bonds with media practitioners.

Nine of RPO’s staff who were present gained exclusive insights into New Straits Times Press (NSTP’s) three main publications — the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Harian Metro — from NSTP chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid.

Jalil also presented a short briefing on how NSTP has progressed to be one of Malaysia’s major media companies under Media Prima Bhd.

The team was then brought for a short tour around Balai Berita Bangsar.

RPO chief press officer Ravi Nambiar said the team’s main objective today was to expose RPO staff to the operations of media companies.

“We have six journalists, photographers and videographers in our team, and we would like to get them exposed to the daily running of the media industry, mainly in the digital sector as we are involved directly as the communications team for the Johor royal family.

“RPO also has a plan to have our journalists be attached with publications under NSTP for a short term course, to provide a new experience for them,” he said.

RPO handles the social media accounts of the Johor royal family — the Facebook and Instagram pages of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and The Royal Johor.

These pages serve as platforms to share the latest information and activities of the royal family to the general public.

The team is currently in the midst of developing its own website for the royal family. This will serve as a portal for the public to get to know about the royal family as well as its history.

RPO is the press office set up exclusively for the royal family of Johor by the sultan himself, and began its operations in November last year.
