BN logo's appearance in 2018 Budget presentation an oversight: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker

KUALA LUMPUR: The appearance of the Barisan Nasional (BN) logo during the tabling of Budget 2018 in Parliament last Friday was an oversight, Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Ismail Said said today.

He said the slides during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's budget presentation were prepared as a visual support for the speech.

"I was told that there were 804 slides used during the presentation of the Supply Bill 2018 at Parliament last Friday. However, only one slide featured the BN logo on the screen and (it was) not in any other slide.

"The appearance of the logo was (due to) an action that was unintentional and an oversight by the slide coordinator," he told Parliament on Wednesday.

The coordinator, Ismail said, had apologised to the Parliament speaker for the mistake.

Ismail urged other members of Parliament to take heed of Parliamentary decorum on the matter.

"I accept the explanation that was given by the slide coordinator and the person has apologised to the Speaker.

"Therefore, I urge all members of Parliament to take this incident as a lesson that shall not be repeated in the future. We must always respect and abide by Parliament's rules and decorum," he added.

Kasthuri Patto (DAP-Batu Kawan) had on Monday raised the issue and asked if it was a new convention.

Ismail later told the media that an investigation would be carried out on the matter.
