Police question man who has allegedly asked for sexual favour from woman

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have questioned the man who had allegedly asked to have sex with a woman in a recorded conversation which has become viral on social media.

Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said police investigated the case under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.

"Police have recorded a statement from the man whose voice was heard in an audio clip.

"We urge the victim and her mother (the woman whose voice was in the clip) to step forward to facilitate investigations," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times.

The alleged clip of a phone conversation between him and a woman has recently made its round on social media.

He was heard coaxing the woman to persuade her daughter to have sex with him.

The man at the centre of the investigation is alleged to be a former MIC branch chairman, who is also a 56-year-old teacher.

Several reports have been lodged against him by non-governmental organisation and individuals nationwide.

The teacher is alleged to have admitted to have sex with four 17-year-old girls in exchange for granting a pass in their exams, admission to universities, as well as providing job opportunity.

Fadzil said police also recorded a statement from another man who had claimed to keep 60 audio recordings involving the rogue teacher on Friday.

However, he said none of the alleged victims of sex crimes involving the teacher had made a police report about the incidents.

Meanwhile, MIC treasurer-general Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari said the victims might be hesitant to make police reports due to cultural taboo.

“Although the alleged victims and their details are confidential, the (Indian) community is generally fearful of making reports of this nature,” he said when contacted.

He said the victims and their family members were afraid of being stigmatised by the society if the incidents became public.

“They are reluctant to be exposed if their case is heard in court," he said, adding that he would lodge a police report against the teacher on Monday.

Vell Paari said MIC would set up a help centre to give women and children a safe space to complain about sex crimes, abuse and harassment.
