MACC detains law enforcement officer for asking sexual bribes

JOHOR BARU: A law enforcement officer has been detained on suspicion of extorting sexual favours in return for inaction regarding a woman who failed to report herself to authorities for a drug-related offence.

According to sources, the male suspect in his 40s is believed to have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while in the company of a woman in her 20s during a special operation at a local hotel, around 7.30pm last night.

The woman in question is suspected of failing to report herself on a monthly basis to the law enforcement agency and the suspect had asked for sexual favours from her in exchange for evading legal action.

"According to reports, the woman has been previously detained for an offence related to drugs and is presently subject to a two-year surveillance mandate imposed by a law enforcement agency in Johor Baru," said the source.

The Johor Baru Magistrate's Court today granted a four-day remand starting from today until Monday for further investigation.

The remand application was approved by Assistant Senior Registrar of the Court, Chai Ing Hien, after it was submitted by MACC this morning.

Meanwhile, MACC's Intelligence Director Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman when contacted confirmed the arrest and that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.
