Police probing viral video of bus driver pummeling Nepali factory worker

BUTTERWORTH: Penang police are investigating the circumstances behind a viral video which saw a factory bus driver assault a Nepali factory worker.

State deputy police chief Datuk Roslee Chik said investigation paper have been opened after both parties involved in the incident lodged reports.

"We are investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code. We will submit the investigation to the deputy public prosecutor for further action," he said.

He said four or five people might be called up to have their statements recorded in relation to the case.

"We will make an arrest soon. There was only one victim, a man in his 30s who lives in Air Itam," he said.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainol Samah said the Nepalese worker has since retracted his police report and wants to settle the dispute amicably.

The incident on Friday morning in Paya Terubong near Air Itam was believed to have been triggered by a faulty bus air conditioner.

One of the foreign workers had apparently raised his dissatisfaction over the faulty air conditioner, which in turn angered the bus driver.

"You know, I can kill you. Where's your friend? If you are not satisfied, come and hit me," the assailant is heard saying in the video.

The assailant then proceeded to pummel the foreign worker by using a motorcycle helmet.

The victim was seen cowering as the others were heard pleading for the assailant to stop.

The 1:45-min video of the man shouting and hitting a foreign factory worker using a helmet had gone viral was shared on various social media sites.
