Orange alert issued as rivers across peninsular M'sia exceed dangerous level

KUALA LUMPUR: An orange alert has been issued for six rivers in Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Malacca where water levels have risen to the ‘dangerous’ stage.

According to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s hydrological data website, the water levels of the Juru river in Penang; the Buloh and Klang rivers in Selangor; the Serting river in Negri Sembilan; and the Malim and Duyong rivers in Malacca are between 0.10m to 0.32m above the dangerous level.

The water level of Sungai Juru was recorded at 1.15m as of 8.45am today, exceeding the orange alert of 1.05m.

Meanwhile, the Klang river is at 2.82m as of 7.30am; and the Sungai Buloh river is at 7.12m as of 7.45am.

The Serting river was recorded at 7.51m; Malim river (1.82m); and Duyong river at 1.63m between the hours of 9am and 9.15am.

Thunderstorms in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor are expected to continue this morning.

According to a statement by the Meteorological Department, areas affected by inclement weather today are Kuala Selangor, Petaling, Klang, Kuala Langat, Sepang and Hulu Langat in Selangor; Tampin, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Seremban and Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan; and Segamat, Tangkak , Muar and Batu Pahat in Johor.
