Trade Ministry to monitor hypermarkets, supermarkets during year-end sales campaign

KOTA BARU: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry will be monitoring hypermarket and supermarket operators taking part in the year-end sales (YES) to ensure they did not violate trade regulations.

Its director Datuk Abdul Ghani Harun said the ministry's enforcement officers would conduct round-the-clock operation to nab errant operators.

"The YES campaign which started last month will end in December. So far, a total of 31 operators are taking part in the campaign, giving as much as 70 per cent discount on goods sold at their premises.

"The government hopes that this campaign will help reduce the burden suffered by the people," he told reporters after attending the launching of the campaign in Kok Lanas Econjaya on Tuesday.

Abdul Ghani said the ministry has yet to receive reports of operators short-changing customers during the YES campaign.

"I would like to warn traders not to cheat customers. We will not hesitate to take stern action against them," he said.
