Kelab Putera 1Malaysia sends 500 volunteers and essential items to flood-stricken Penang

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Following a directive by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Kelab Putera 1Malaysia today brought essential aid to thousands of flood victims in Penang.

A total of 20 containers arrived at the district office here this morning, containing mattresses, pillows, blankets, hygiene kits, sanitary pads, infant formulas, food, mats and tents, among others.

Another 20 containers, said Kelab Putera 1Malaysia president Datuk Seri Paduka Abdul Azeez Rahim, will arrive tomorrow.

he said the club has mobilised a team of 500 young volunteers to help in the massive cleaning up exercise.

“The prime minister asked us to come here to give aid to those affected by the floods.

“What is important is that we want to help everyone irrespective of our political differences,” he told newsmen before presenting the aid to flood victims at the district office here.

Azeez said the club will consider bringing in more aid if the need arises, and that efforts are underway to distribute the aid to all flood relief centres across the state.

“We will decide our next course of action tomorrow, besides seeking the prime minister’s advice,” he said, adding that the volunteers would remain in Penang for several days.

Azeez said his team will work closely with those on the ground to ensure there is no overlapping of assistance and work.
