200 TTB volunteers off to Penang to help flood victims

KUALA NERUS: The first batch of 200 volunteers from Terengganu Transformation (TTB) Volunteer squad left the state this morning to assist flood victims in Penang.

State Youth, Sport and Human Resource committee chairman Datuk Rozi Mamat said the team, comprising Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) students, Umno Youth members and non-governmental organisation members will be led by Civil Defence Department CD Major Amir Sharifuddin Zaman and 20 department staff.

Rozi said the team had attended a briefing at the Bina Negara camp and they would focus the clean-up efforts at affected schools, government buildings and public areas.

"The team will be in Penang for three days at flood-hit areas in Permatang Pauh and Tasik Gelugor.

Four buses, 10 four wheel drives, trucks and cars left the Dataran Austin today," he said adding that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman would be joining the team on Saturday.

Rozi said Ahmad Razif was expected to announce an allocation to help some of the people affected by the flood in the area.

As of yesterday, the number of flood victims in evacuation centres in four district in Penang showed a decline with 6,080 people from 1,572 families compared with 6,243 people from 1,588 families earlier.
