200 families in Hulu Langat affected by flood following heavy downpour

DENGKIL: Some 200 families residing here were affected by flood following heavy downpour in Hulu Langat district last night.

Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue department chief Izman Adnan said among the areas affected were Taman Baiduri, Taman Permata, Taman Kristal, Taman Putra Kondo, Kampung Cemperai and Kampung Revolusi Hijau.

"The floods were due to the heavy rain since yesterday which caused the water level at Sungai Langat to rise up to one meter, and flow into certain areas in Dengkil.

"Following this, a flood relief centre was opened at the Dengkil Multipurpose Hall to accommodate those who had been affected by the flood.

"Even though the flood has subsided, we fear that it would rain again in the district," he said when contacted today.

Checks at the relief centre also showed that only two families from Kampung Cemperai were currently there.

Meanwhile, Timah Langat Zone Council Member Lee Kan Ming said water level begin to rise at 5.30am.

"However we were able to control the situation as the authorities were prepared to evacuate flood victims in the event of heavy rain in the district.

"We also asked those who were affected by the flood to come to the relief centre to receive aid.

"As of now, there is only one relief centre. If the number of victims increase, we will open up another relief centre," he added.

Sella Darusman, 47, her husband Muhammad Alwi and their three children came to relief centre at 11am today after floodwaters entered their home.

"This is the second time we are experiencing flood. The first time was five years ago, where the water level rose up to waist level. This time it was not as bad because the water was knee level," she added.
