Two siblings drown in water catchment pond

BAHAU: Two siblings aged six and 10 were found drowned after they slipped into a water catchment pond while fishing at Kampung Padang Lalang here this evening.

Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said, in the 6pm incident, Muhammad Solehudin Mohd Nasir and his sister, Ainul Batrisyah, were found by the department's team before they were pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the hospital at 7am.

"We received the emergency call at 6.05pm and a team was immediately dispatched at the location to conduct a search and rescue operation at the two-metre deep pond, located not far from the victims' house.

"Ainul Batrisyah was found at 6.20pm while her brother was found unconscious five minutes later. Both were given emergency treatment before they were rushed to Jempol Hospital," he said.

Meanwhile, Zone 3 Fire Station chief Rozlan Seman said, it is learnt that prior to the incident, both victims had asked their mother's permission to go fishing at a pond located about 60 meters from their house.

"Their mother gave permission but at the same time monitored her children from the house. When she realised that her children were nowhere to be seen, the mother immediately ran to the pond and asked for help from the villagers," he said.
