KUBANG PASU: The number of flood victims seeking shelter at temporary evacuation centres in the district rose to 496 victims from 109 families.
Kubang Pasu district Disaster Management Secretariat Kamalruzamal Kasa said the victims placed at the relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Changlun increased from 210 on Wednesday to 235 Thursday, while 94 others were placed at Surau Kampung Betong which was opened since 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the centre at Surau Kampung Tebing, opened since 4pm yesterday provided shelter to 67 victims and another 100 were evacuated to the Kampung Lahar relief centre.
"The increasing number of flood victims is due to the continuous downpour on Wednesday evening.
"Residents whose houses were inundated by floodwaters are urged to alert the rescue team or head of village to the enable evacuation process to be carried out immediately," he said.
