Retiring Kulim school principal given sensational farewell

KULIM: The principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Air Merah Kulim here was treated to an unforgettable farewell on her last day at work before retirement recently.

Nor Ashikeen Saad, 60, who had served as an educator for 37 years, was touched by the retirement celebration put on by her school, which included student performances and even a special horse ride.

Teacher Abdul Aziz Ahmad said he and other teachers, students as well as the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) organised the event to ensure that Nor Ashikeen would be given a fitting send-off.

He said the climax of the event was when Nor Ashikeen rode a horse, while being escorted by seven members of the X-Fit Gym club, who are also former students at the school.

“There were other performances too, such as nasyid and singing performances, poetry declamation and sporting activities by the students.

“We are so proud to be able to carry out the celebration to honour Nor Ashikeen, who has contributed a lot to the development of this school,” he added.

Nor Ashikeen was indeed delighted by the ceremony and thanked everyone who was involved in the celebration.

“The task of teachers nowadays is challenging, and I hope that all teachers at SMK Air Merah can continue their noble task of educating the children of the nation," she said.

Nor Ashikeen began her career as a teacher in 1980 at SMK Serdang here, before being transferred to SMK Sultan Badlishah and other schools in the district here.
