Mavcom to look into complainst against AirAsia

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will look into complaints levelled against AirAsia for imposing high prices, Deputy Transport Minister Ab Aziz Kaprawi said.

Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat he had discussed with the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) on the matter to avoid the airline from taking advantage on its customers.

He said this in response to Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Bung Moktar Radin who had earlier complained that AirAsia had charged RM2,000 for a one-way ticket from Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur.

According to Bung, he saw some villagers forced to buy new tickets just because they arrived late for boarding.

"The villagers complained that they had no money, so I helped a bit. Luckily, I have (money with me at the time). If you say you're a budget carrier, then you have to impose a cheap fare.

"From Sandakan to Kuala Lumpur, (AirAsia charge) close to RM2,000. I don't know how they can win the best flight (award) for several consecutive years. If I were to rate, I will not give them any marks," he said.
