KANOWIT: A total of 140 pupils from Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Bawan stood for hours in flood waters to attend their year-end examination results ceremony today.
The school, located near a river, was inundated following a downpour yesterday.
Sarawak's Disaster Management Committee secretariat, in a statement, said non-stop rain caused rivers to burst their banks, which resulted in water overflowing into the villages nearby, including the school.
"Although there was no rain in the morning, the water had yet to recede when the children reached the school about 7am.
The school decided to carry on with the ceremony at the school hall. The ceremony, attended by parents as well as 16 teachers, was held as planned as the situation was under control.
