SEGAMAT: Twenty people were injured when their bus skidded into a ditch along KM8 Jalan Genuang today.

In the 4.20pm incident, the express bus was believed to be headed to Segamat from Johor Baru.

The bus is believed to have swerved to avoid an oncoming trailer before it landed in the ditch and fell on its side.

Among the injured victims were students from the Segamat Vocational College aged between 16 and 18 years old, and a 20-year old student from UiTM Segamat.

Bandar Putra Fire and Rescue Department fire fighter deputy officer Aizat Mamat said a rescue team was deployed to the crash site.

"There were no casualties in the accident. There were 20 victims including the bus driver, as well as his wife and kids who were traveling together with him on the trip," Aizat said.

Aizat said there were 45 passengers onboard. Those who were spared from injuries however were shaken by the crash.

He said all of the injured victims were rushed to the Segamat Hospital via ambulance and a fire truck.

"The Segamat health department also extended their assistance by ferrying some of the injured victims in their van to the hospital," he said.

Meanwhile Segamat district police chief Superintendant Raub Selamat said police are still investigating the cause of the incident and is awaiting a full report on the crash.
