Kuantan man commits suicide after failing driving test; decomposed body found hanging from tree

KUANTAN: The badly decomposed body of a man was found hanging from a mangosteen tree in a fruit orchard here on Thursday, six days after he went missing following a Road Transport Department (RTD) driving test.

It is understood that the 21-year-old had failed his test, and much speculation followed his disappearance on Nov 17 over his state of mind upon receiving his result.

When he failed to return home after the test, concerned members of his family mounted a search for him, before lodging a police report when they came up empty handed.

The man’s grisly remains were discovered by a member of the public who was picking fruit in at orchard at Jalan Kuantan-Pintasan Pelabuhan near Taman Datuk Rashid here. He immediately reported his find at the Beserah police station.

A police team which arrived at the scene brought down the deceased's body, which was then sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) for a post-mortem.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Aziz Salleh said that the man had left his family home at Taman Datuk Rashid here at 8am on Nov 17 in order to sit for his test at the Kuantan Driving Academy at Batu 6, Jalan Gambang here.

"The police have classified the case as sudden death," he added.
