DAP rep ejected from Perak state assembly

IPOH: DAP's Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee Chuan How was ejected from the state assembly here this morning for disrupting the session.

State assembly speaker Datuk S. Thangeswari, in delivering the ruling, said Lee had violated the assembly's Standing Orders by continuously questioning her decision in rejecting his motion.

In his motion, Lee had called for Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib (BN-Slim) to be investigated by the state assembly's Rights and Privileges Committee for using a vulgar word during a session on Saturday.

Thangeswari rejected the motion, saying the word was not recorded in the Hansard.

“My ruling is based on the fact that the alleged word was no where found in the Hansard.

“I have heard the motion that you brought forward and rejected it. Let’s move on with the wrap-up speeches (for the 2018 state Budget) by the excos,” she said today.

Lee insisted that Khusairi should be investigated, saying the committee would be able to review the video recording of Saturday’s meeting.

This has led to a war of words between several assemblymen from both sides before state exco Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid (BN-Kamunting) tabled a motion under Standing Order 44(3) for Lee to be ejected.

“I have given repeated warnings but he did not heed them. He is to be suspended for a day,” said Thangeswari after instructing Lee to be escorted out.

Upon hearing this, the other opposition representatives also walked out of the chamber, save those from Pas.
