NGO urges action against DAP assemblyman over spreading false news

KOTA KINABALU: Stern action should be taken against DAP's Teratai assemblyman Tiew Way Keng for spreading false statements aimed at inciting the people, says Gerakan Akar Umbi Malaysia (GAUM).

GAUM chairman Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar has filed a police report against Tiew for using her Facebook account to upload a National Registration Department (NRD) form implying that the government is giving citizenship to foreigners to gain votes.

Zulkarnain said the assemblyman should know better and check the facts first.

“The NRD has made a statement denying ever issuing such forms but many might still be fooled by this claim.

“This Facebook status has gone viral on social media and although the post has been deleted, it has already done the damage of painting a negative image of government agencies and Barisan Nasional.

“This is not the first time the Opposition is acting like this, especially with the coming general elections.

"We need to teach irresponsible parties a lesson by taking action against them for spreading false statements,” he said when met at the district police station.
