MAS, AirAsia resume flights to Bali as Ngurah Rai airport reopens

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will resume all flights between Kuala Lumpur and Bali today following the reopening of Ngurah Rai International Airport.

In a statement, MAS advised all passengers to be at the airport at least three hours prior to their departure.

“This is to avoid the long queues at the check-in counters,” it said on its website today.

The national carrier said it has arranged ground transport to Surabaya from Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar with an onward connection to Kuala Lumpur.

“The journey from Bali to Surabaya will take around 12 hours.

“That being the case, all affected passengers need to register themselves at the airline’s Customer Service Desk counter at level three in the airport.”

MAS also said it will mount one rescue flight from Surabaya to Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, AirAsia said it will resume some flights to and from Bali today following a comprehensive safety assessment conducted by its safety and operations teams.

An AirAsia spokesperson said all scheduled flights are based on the latest safety advisories issued by the Indonesian authorities.

“Passengers who no longer wish to travel are advised to make their refund request at a later stage due to the high volume of customer cases currently.

“Passengers are also advised to check AirAsia’s official website and social media pages for further announcements."

Malindo Air will also resume all flights to and from Denpasar beginning today.

“The flights have been cancelled since November 27, due to the ash cloud from Mount Agung volcano and the closure of Ngurah Rai International Airport.

“We are monitoring the situation closely and will adjust its flight operations when necessary, prioritising on passengers’ safety.”

The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta said it is actively monitoring the wellbeing of all Malaysians currently stranded in Bali.
