High-powered conference to discuss strategic and best practices to intensify women leadership

KUALA LUMPUR: One thousand local and international delegates are expected to attend Women in Politics 2017 (WIPKL 2017) conference.

Themed “Women and Industrial Revolution 4.0: Leadership and Substantive Equality”, the conference will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre here on Dec 3 and 4.

Selangor Wanita Umno chief Datuk Nor Hayati Onn said the conference will address the importance of substantive equality and women's leadership in a world that is impacted by the fourth industrial revolution.

“Women leadership is the key to enhance substantive equality within global communities," she said.

“Through this conference, the delegates will identify opportunities of digital technology while eliminating discrimination against specific groups through women leadership and representation.

“WIPKL 2017 will also address the strategic and best practices to intensify women leadership and representation in legislative, communities, public and corporate sectors.”

Hayati said that this year’s conference will be held in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly.

She said WIPKL 2017 will welcome delegates from Mauritius, Palestine, Singapore, United States of America, United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa unlike WIPKL 2015 which only saw delegates from ASEAN countries held during Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2015.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to grace WIPKL 2017 opening ceremony and Datin Sri Rosmah Mansor will launch Srikandi (Female warriors) and Ibu Terbaik Bangsa (Nation’s Best Mother) books published by Wanita Umno during the conference.

“The handover of joint recommendation gathered from the conference will be done by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil,” she said at a press conference at advisory office for women's entrepreneur and professional development in the Prime Minister’s Office here today.

She added that delegates attending this conference will comprise party leaders, politicians, dialogue partners and non governmental organisations (NGOs).
