Drug smugglers to be extradited back to Malaysia to face the music

KUALA LUMPUR: The six men nabbed in Hong Kong attempting to smuggle nearly HK$4 million (RM2 million) worth of ketamine into the city will be extradited back to Malaysia to face the music.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the six Malaysian, aged between 18 and 28, will be brought back to face criminal charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act or any other relevant provision.

“We have a mutual legal assistance (MLA) with China and Hong Kong is an autonomous Chinese territory. Hence the cooperation between our police and Hong Kong police will result in the extradition of the six individuals to Malaysia," he told reporters at a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here today, where he had earlier opened the Umno Selangor Convention.

Zahid who is also the Home Minister also thanked the Hong Kong Chief Executive and authorities for their cooperation in the case.

It was reported earlier that the six Malaysian men were intercepted for inspection at the Hong Kong airport’s customs clearance counter following their arrival from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. More than 8kg of suspected ketamine was found strapped to the bodies of four of the six men.
