Civil Defence Force boosting flood rescue operations with new assets

JOHOR BARU: The Civil Defence Force is getting a boost from the state government for its flood rescue operations during the monsoon season with new mobile rescue units.

State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani, who handed over the new assets, expressed his hope that the five land and water rescue vehicles would help the agency in carrying out their operations better.

"I hope these mobile rescue units can assist the Civil Defence Force while carrying out their duties during the wet season," he said today.

The Northeast Monsoon is a three-month wet season, starting from last month, which is expected to bring heavier rainfalls in the southern region, especially in the Segamat and Muar districts.

The state Civil Defence director Mat Zin Bujang said the five new rescue vehicles, comprised three units of 5-tonne trucks, one speedboat and a pickup truck, would be used in theflood prone areas in the state.

"With the additional vehicles, we have more than 70 mobile rescue units that can be deployed immediately during emergencies and natural disasters," he said.

Mat Zin also said the Civil Defence Force was always ready to work with other enforcement agencies in sharing its resources during crisis operations under the National Blue Ocean Strategy programme.
