PUTRAJAYA: Beginning next year, 33 Tamil primary schools will start setting up classes for pre-schoolers.
MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam said the government has set aside an allocation of RM10 million under the 2017 Budget for this purpose.
"These 33 schools will set up 55 pre-school classes by next year with a budget of RM200,000 for each class.
"The cost includes building the classrooms, fitting these classrooms with materials needed to conduct lessons, a playground and other facilities," he told reporters after a cheque presentation to the 33 schools.
Among the schools involved were SJKT Methodist, Buntong Perak;
SJKT Gandhi Memorial, Perak; SJKT Ladang Highlands, Selangor; SJKT Glenmarie, Selangor; SJKT Sungai Tok Pawang, Kedah; and SJKT Bandar Spring Hill, Negeri Sembilan.
On Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's recent call for Barisan Nasional leaders to work together to win back the two-third majority for Parliament and state seats, Dr Subramaniam said MIC was ready to do so.
He said the party would help all BN candidates, especially in constituencies with a large number of Indian community.
The MIC president also said the party has shortlisted the names of those who would contest in the upcoming 14th General Election, adding that BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak already has the name list.
