Umno assembly delegates perform 'hajat' prayer for Jerusalem

KUALA LUMPUR: The atmosphere at the Tun Razak 2 Hall this afternoon was heavy with emotion as teary-eyed delegates at the 71st Umno General Assembly prayed for divine intervention to save Jerusalem from becoming the capital of Israel.

Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak and other Supreme Council Members led the gathering at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in a 'hajat' prayer, beseeching Allah to save one of Islam's three Holy sites from becoming the capital of the Zionist state, and for the safety of Palestinians.

The impassioned ‘doa’ led by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom drove many in the congregation to tears.

The move follows the United States’ announcement on Wednesday that it was officially recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, triggering outrage in the Muslim world.

Concerns have arisen that the US’s announcement will spark an uprising among radical movements, and plunge the Middle East into a political crisis.
