Floods worsen in Kemaman

KEMAMAN: Flood situation in the district has worsened with more evacuees seeking shelter at the Darul Iman Training Centre (DITC) in Kijal this morning.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said the numbers have gone up as at 7.45am to 280 people from 67 families, from 251 people from 61 families last night.

Said said the number of flood victims have increased even though the rains have stopped this morning.

He said the Darul Iman Training Centre (DITC) relief centre in Telok Kalong, Kijal began operating to cater to the victims after their houses were inundated by 0.5-metre deep floodwaters yesterday.

He said that the number of evacuees included 90 children from 81 children yesterday.

At present all victims evacuated are from Kampung Telok Kalong.

Said said however that four rivers namely Sungai Cherul -Ban Ho bridge is stated at 12.82 metres, Sungai Kemaman -Aor Putih bridge at 10.76 metres, Sungai Kemaman Rumah Pam Paya Panau at 2.19 metres an Sungai Tebak-Tebak bridge is recorded at 16.20 metres.

"All of them are under the alert level," he said.
