754 victims displaced in worsening Kelantan floods

KOTA BARU: The worsening flood situation in Kelantan has displaced more victims, with an increase to 754 victims as of 9am today, compared to 594 reported last night.

This comes after another two districts, Kota Baru and Machang, were the latest areas to be affected by floods.

It was previously reported that only Bachok and Pasir Mas were affected by the floods. However, heavy rain since yesterday has caused river water levels to rise, affecting nearby villages.

According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) Info Bencana portal, all victims comprising 241 families have been sheltered in six temporary flood relief centres, with two centres in Bachok and Pasir Mas and one in Kota Baru and Machang.

In Bachok, 241 victims comprising 66 families have been sheltered at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Beris Panchor and 114 victims (35 families) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jelawat.

In Pasir Mas, 226 victims comprising 77 families have been sheltered at SK Gual To' Deh in Rantau Panjang and 155 victims (57 families) at SMK Baroh Pial.

At the same time, 10 victims comprising three families were sheltered at SK Pulai Chondong and eight victims (three families) at SK Pangkal Kalong in Kota Baru.
