TMI leaving it to MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Insight (TMI) is leaving it up to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on whether it will investigate the portal regarding alleged reports of insults made against the government and its leaders.

TMI chief editor Jahabar Sadiq said it was the right of MCMC to do what they see fit.

"I do not have any further comments on this issue because the Umno delegate who claimed TMI insulted the country's leaders did not say specifically what our wrongdoings were.

"If he had done so, we would then be able to comment," he told Berita Harian here today.

Umno Tasek Gelugor chief Mohd Nashrol Hisham Abdullah this morning urged authorities to investigate the owner of TMI.

During the debate on education and religion, he said the portal insulted the country's leaders and the government, calling for Faridah Begum as the owner of TMI, to be investigated.

Nashrol said he found Faridah to be the owner after sourcing into Companies Commission Malaysia's records.

Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said MCMC had received a report on the matter.

"MCMC will look into the report to see if there are indeed any offenses made against our act. Any further actions will be informed later," he said.
