Kedah Ruler heads honours list for Selangor Sultan's birthday

KLANG: Sultan of Kedah Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah heads the list of 103 people who will be conferred awards in conjunction with the 72nd birthday of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, here today.

Sultan Sallehuddin will receive the state’s highest honour, the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat Dihormati (DK), at an investiture ceremony at Istana Alam Shah, Klang.

Army chief General Tan Sri Zulkiple Kassim and Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim will receive the Darjah Kebesaran Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS), which carries the title Datuk Seri.

The sole recipient of the Darjah Kebesaran Dato' Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SSIS), which carries the title Datuk Setia, is Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.

Nine will receive the Darjah Kebesaran Dato Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS), which carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.

They include Malaysian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Datuk Zainol Rahim Zainuddin; Malaysian ambassador to Argentina Datuk Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak; Royal Malaysian Navy Eastern Fleet commander Vice-Admiral Datuk Syed Zahiruddin Putra Syed Osman; and, Selangor deputy mufti Dr Anhar Opir.

Also receiving the DPMS are Lembaga Tabung Haji senior general manager Datuk Syed Saleh Syed Abdul Rahman; Selangor Land and Mines Office director Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim; Kuala Langat district officer Rosli Othman; Universiti Teknologi Mara vice-chancellor Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Hassan Said; and, Selangor State Development Corporation chief executive officer (CEO) Noraida Mohd Yusof.

Nine people will receive the Darjah Kebesaran Dato Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS), which also carries the title Datuk for men and Datin Paduka for women.

They include RMN inspector-general Laksamana Muda Ganesh Navaratnam; Universiti Putra Malaysia deputy vice-chancellor (Industry and Community Relations) Prof Dr Renuganth Varatharajoo; Universiti Tun Abdul Razak deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof Dr Samsinar Md. Sidin; and Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) group CEO Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, who was New Straits Times Press (NSTP) CEO from 2011 to March 2017.

Also receiving the DSIS are current NSTP CEO Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid; Selangor Zakat Board shareholder Mohamed Ross Din; Central Spectrum Sdn Bhd CEO Mahmud Abbas; advocate and solicitor Gerald Rakish Kumar Lewis Kanniah; and Top Glove Corporation Bhd managing director Lee Kim Meow.

Two people will receive the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli Kegemilangan Sukan (AKS); 13 the Darjah Kebesaran Setia Mahkota Selangor (SMS); 15 the Darjah Kebesaran Setia Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (SIS); 20 will be awarded the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli Mahkota Selangor (AMS), 20 the Darjah Kebesaran Ahli Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (AIS); four the Bintang Kegemilangan Sukan (BKS); and, seven the Bintang Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (BPC), all of which do not carry titles.

The sports personalities receiving medals are former national bowler and current Selangor Sports Council bowling head coach Kenny Ang Ah Tee and karate athlete Syakilla Saini Jefry Krisnan @ Krishnamurthy (both the AKS); and, national swimmer Phee Jinq En, Selangor Sports Council diving head coach Rossharisham Roslan and sailors Ahmad Syukri Aziz and Mohamad Faizal Norizan (BKS).

Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya, had in a letter dated Dec 5 said all recipients had undergone three levels of vetting, namely by the police, Insolvency Department and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

He said this year, the state government received 1,939 applications for state honours, of which 1,211 were nominations for awards and medals, and 728 for state-level medals.
