Azizah: 34 federal statutory bodies have no women as board members

KUALA LUMPUR: As of November, there are 41 women appointed as members of boards of major government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs).

“Based on the Finance Ministry's latest record, only 17 or 13 per cent of the 132 federal statutory bodies have achieved the 30 per cent target of women to be appointed as board members .

"Another 81 or 61 per cent have at least one woman in their board of directors.

“The rest, 34 statutory bodies, have no women as board members," she said during the question-and-answer session in Dewan Negara today.

Azizah was replying to Senator Rahemah Idris' question on the number of women in the board of directors of GLCs, GLICs and federal statutory bodies, as well as on the ministry’s strategy in ensuring the success of 2018 as the Women Empowerment Year.
