Girl killed in shotgun mishap's last wish was for a new school uniform

POKOK SENA: "Mama, please come and take me to buy my school uniform."

The request by Puteri Intan Sharini Mohd Hishamuddin will forever haunt her mother when the eight-year-old child was killed in a fatal shotgun mishap in Kampung Empa, Pokok Sena near here today.

Wan Nor Suriati Wan Masri, 26, was devastated as she shared the last telephone conversation she had with her eldest child, yesterday evening.

And now, Suriati will never get to fulfil her daughter's wish.

Sharini was watching television by herself in the living room of the house when she was hit by a shotgun round.

The weapon belonged to Puteri’s 80-year-old great-grandfather who uses the weapon for hunting.

Suriati, who rushed back to the scene upon being informed of the tragedy, said her world crumbled when she saw her daughter's head covered in blood.

"She was already dead when I arrived. I just cried helplessly next to her body."

"I was planning to fulfil her wish in the next few days but it was not meant to be," she said in between sobs.

Suriani has been living in Wang Tepus, Jitra after separating from her husband.

Meanwhile, Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said that during the incident, the firearm was held by her 15-year-old cousin, who accidentally fired the weapon.

He said police have seized the weapon and its licence for investigation.

He said police have also detained two men, who are the relatives of the victim, to facilitate the probe under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
