DAP ploy by claiming Pakatan Harapan will win GE14 will not stick

BALING: DAP’s strategy in claiming the opposition pact will form the government is part of a psychological warfare ahead of the 14th General Election (GE14).

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said DAP deployed the same tactic in the last two general elections but failed and with GE14 looming, they are using the same tactic to convince the voters to support for Pakatan Harapan pact ahead of the polls.

Bashah, who is also the state BN chairman described this as just another DAP and Pakatan Harapan strategy to entice the voters to support them by claiming that they are able to defeat the ruling BN coalition.

"We have seen them applying the same strategy in the past GE12 and GE13 but in the end, I am confident that the voters are wise enough to read the opposition tactic and stick to BN which has proven track record in the past 13 general elections," he said after leading the Alor Star Umno division assessment on Baling BN machinery preparation for the GE14 here.

He stressed that the voters should learn from the previous general elections where they were misled to give their vote to the opposition pact by believing that the previous opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat were able to win.

Bashah was commenting on DAP national political education director Liew Chin Tong take that Pakatan Harapan has a good chance to form the new federal government by wresting 40 parliamentary seats currently held by BN through Umno, to secure a total 100 seats in the peninsula.

In his analysis published by a news portal, Liew claimed that Pakatan Harapan pact will form the new federal government by winning the 40 seats located in the west coast of peninsula which are currently held by Umno.

Liew pointed out that the 40 seats - at least 10 in Kedah and Perlis, are located in Malay-majority semi-urban areas with a sizable number of non-Malay voters.

Meanwhile, Bashah who is also Alor Star Umno division chief said Kedah BN and Umno will intensify preparation for the GE14 as the challenges would be different from the previous general polls.

"This assessment programme is part of our effort to make sure that all Umno divisions in the state are prepared to face the GE14, whereby one division will carry out a visit and assessment on the other Umno division's election machinery.

"For example, today we (Alor Star division) carry out assessment on the preparation by Baling BN and its 78 polling centres machinery and later, Langkawi division will carry out similar assessment on Alor Star division," he said.

Bashah added that the assessment process in all 15 Umno divisions in the state expected to be completed by end of this month so that all BN machinery are fully prepared to face the GE14 by this January.
