No Malaysian casualty in Java earthquake: Foreign Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysian casualty has been reported in the wake of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake which struck southern Java, Indonesia on Friday, the Foreign Ministry said.

At least three people were killed, and hundreds of buildings were damaged or destroyed in the tremblor, which occurred at 11.47pm local time (10.47pm Malaysian time).

The earthquake, which was revised upward from an earlier estimate of 6.5 on the Richter scale, was centred about 32 miles southwest of the city of Tasikmalaya, and was felt in the capital Jakarta.
