Heavy rains wallop western Sabah, triggering floods

PAPAR: Strong winds and a continuous downpour have lashed western Sabah, triggering flooding and felling trees in several areas.

Papar’s Fire and Rescue Department said they were called in to save eight people who were trapped in their house by waist-level floodwaters at 1.37pm.

The Department despatched six personnel to evacuate the victims to higher ground.

Meanwhile in Penampang, Jalan Panglima, Kampung Kibabaig, Penampang Proper, Kampung Nambazan, Kampung Sugud and Kampung Babah are inundated by floodwaters.

In a statement, the Civil Defence Department said roads in Panglima Banting Sugud, Kampung Pinapah Kondis, Kampung Sugud and Kampung Penampang Proper are now impassable to light vehicles.
