Najib gets red carpet welcome in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was honoured with an official welcoming ceremony by the Sri Lankan government this morning.

Najib, who is on a three-day official working visit to the island nation, was escorted to the Sri Lankan presidential palace by a horse-mounted police honour guard.

This was followed by a 21-gun salute.

After the official welcoming ceremony, Najib had a one-to-one meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena before proceeding to the bilateral talks.

Today, he is expected to witness the signing of several memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two countries in the fields of training, science and technology, communication and bio-economy.

Najib will also attend a roundtable meeting with Sri Lankan businessmen, as well as meetings with representatives of Malaysian companies and communities here.

This is the first official visit by Najib to the country. His visit coincides with Malaysia and Sri Lanka's 60 years of bilateral ties.
