Ku Nan confident Cheras MP's planned MACC report will explain housing issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is confident that DAP lawmaker Tan Kok Wai’s plans to report him to the graft busters will clear the air over issues of land sale and affordable housing development in Kuala Lumpur.

The minister thanked Tan for informing him of the latter’s plans to lodge a report against him and his ministry to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“I believe that the report expected to be made by YB Tan Kok Wai will definitely reveal the truth, including allegations and slander that has been made against me and the government,” he said in a statement today.

Tengku Adnan said he was also aware of groups that had been established by certain parties to object to development projects planned by the government for their areas and around city.

He claimed these objections were to obtain certain remuneration from developers.

On this issue, he said he has asked developers to report this to the police and MACC in relation to the actions of such parties.

“I will not compromise with the actions of those particular people who are going against the law for personal gain.

“Such practises are not carried out by the Barisan Nasional government administration.

“I am uncertain as to how other states not governed by BN had failed to adhere to development requirements and still get to continue with projects without objections by any parties,” he said.

Last week, Tan, who is Cheras MP, had claimed that KL City Hall had sold 45 parcels of land without going through an open-tender process since Tengku Adnan helmed the ministry.

Tengku Adnan challenged Tan to make his allegations clear so that he could respond with legal action as well as reporting to the MACC if the latter believed there was any power abuse.

He had said from the land sold, 43 were signed, with 28 plots for the construction of the Federal Territory Affordable Housing (RUMAWIP) and the rest for the development of the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing (PPA1M) and 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA).

The areas sold for development involve non-feasible hawker centres' reserves, squatter settlements, public housing spaces, reserved open spaces and staff quarters.
