TH to review proposals to manage matters relating to umrah activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Tabung Haji (TH) will be reviewing proposals to manage matters relating to umrah packages.

Its Group Managing Director and Chief Executive officer Datuk Seri Johan Abdullah said TH supports the call to action to address the mismanagement of umrah packages by irresponsible parties.

In a statement, he said that his team would study every proposal for TH to manage matters relating the management, monitoring, and enforcement of umrah for Malaysian pilgrims.

"A more in-depth study needs to be conducted from various aspects because umrah management differs from the hajj pilgrimage and umrah can be carried out throughout the year.

“The findings from this study will have to be analysed carefully and refined before any decision or alteration of the Act (Tabung Haji Act 1995) can be proposed,” he said in a statement.

Johan said TH would also need to look into the benefits and impact for its depositors as umrah management would involve a different cost structure.

"We also need to have further discussions with the authorities so that these proposals can be presented in full for the benefit of all parties involved," he said.

TH also advised those who wished to perform umrah to seek the services of tourism companies that possess the umrah special license, which was enforced by Tourism and Culture Ministry in October.
