PM arrives at Putra Mosque for Solidarity Rally

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak arrived at the Putra Mosque to take part in the Solidarity Rally to Save Jerusalem today.

He arrived at 1pm and immediately went into the prayer hall to perform the Friday prayer followed by the Hajat prayer.

A special sermon touching on the Jerusalem issues is being delivered by Federal Territory Mufti Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, made his appearance and joined the Friday prayer congregation.

Not only Muslims took part in the rally. There were non-Muslims as well who had braved the hot sun to show their protest again the decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

One of them was 51-year-old Sivan Duraisamy who said the object of this peaceful demonstration went beyond race and religion.

"This is a matter of mankind and humanity, not about race and religion. We stand together as Malaysians to show our protest against the US' move (to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel).

"People are saying this is a matter of religion and non-Muslims should not be involved.

"But I'm sure when we Hindus or non-Muslims face trouble one day, our Muslim brothers will join hands to help us," said the History and Economic teacher.

He also hoped a resolution could be reached to resolve this problem.
