RAMALLAH: Thousands of Palestinians marked the New Year on Sunday night with a massive rally in the city of Ramallah in solidary with the Gaza Strip.

They demanded an end to the Israeli war against Gaza, which has persisted for 87 days and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of Palestinians, mainly children and women, the Palestinian news agency (WAFA) reported.

Participants raised pictures and names of the Palestinians who were murdered in the relentless Israeli bombardment from the air, land and sea.

They chanted slogans denouncing the crimes of the Israeli occupation and its ongoing massacres against the people of Gaza, calling for national unity to confront the Israeli war crimes.

They urged the international community to urgently intervene, halt the genocide, and provide protection for the Palestinian population.

Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip since Oct 7 have killed 21,822 Palestinians and wounded 56,451 others, the Health Ministry in Gaza said Sunday.

It noted that around 70 per cent of the victims are women and children. — BERNAMA
