No favouritism for illegally parked police patrol car

PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya Corporation's (PPj) act in clamping an illegally parked police patrol car at Jalan P2P here yesterday showed that PPj does not practice double standards.

PPj Enforcement Division director Muhamad Irwan Abdullah said his team was just following procedures when carrying out enforcement action.

"The enforcement team was conducting daily checks in the area when they spotted a police patrol car parked illegally.

"The vehicle was parked at the road shoulder near the clamping zone at Jalan P2P, near the Menara Usahawan in Presint 3.

"We had tried to get in touch with the driver of the car but to no avail. It is a procedure for us to clamp all cars that commit traffic offences, including the police car," he said in a statement.

He said the action was taken under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for obstructing traffic.

"Such action needed to be taken to ensure there is no double standard elements when it comes to enforcement," he said in response to a photo of an illegally parked police patrol car which was clamped in front of Menara Usahawan yesterday.

The photo, which has since gone viral, showed the right front tyre of the car being clamped while three uniformed policemen were seen standing around the vehicle.

The photo has received numerous reactions from netizens.

Irwan said the clamping zones implementation was one of the efforts to educate the public and prevent them from committing traffic offences.

PPj has introduced towing and clamping zones to deter illegal parking since April 1. It also provides information on clamping and towing zones as well as parking areas in Putrajaya via www.ppj.gov.my.
