Cops promise fair probe into death of teen who crashed into police car

MELAKA: Police have vowed a fair and transparent investigation into a fatal accident involving a teenager who crashed into a patrol car.

"We will not compromise with any policeman if investigations indicate they were negligent in discharging their duties," Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said.

The teenager, Mohammad Khairul Basahri, 18, died from severe injuries hours after his motorcycle collided with a police patrol car in Durian Tunggal this morning.

The incident happened yesterday when a police four-wheel-drive was on patrol in Durian Tunggal following complaints of illegal racing.

The teenager's motorcycle reportedly crashed into the four-wheel-drive while it was driving along Jalan Gangsa Kesang.

"We will ensure a fair and transparent investigation to determine the cause of the accident."

Ashari said he and his men have visited Khairul's family to convey their condolences and reassure them of a fair and transparent probe.

He said police will also assist the family with the teenager's funeral arrangements.
